I LOVE MY FAMILY
I want to make myself very clear about my feelings. I LOVE MY FAMILY. Regardless of what I write from my past, I know my family did the best they knew how and were capable of. I am NOT writing my story to blame, shame, or belittle anyone. I am NOT angry with anyone.
I have had enough therapy in my life to know and understand that we all have a story to tell. I have a story that includes damage from the people in my life growing up, and I know with absolute certainty that my children have a story to tell about the damage I’ve caused them. There was no more purpose and intent to cause trauma in my childhood by my family than there was in my children’s upbringing.
I hope to break the cycle moving forward by writing my story, hoping that my children’s children know a different way.
It’s up to you to change generational narratives. When they tell you, “This runs in the family“, you tell them, “And this is where it runs the f*ck out.“
